How to colour this treasure map:

To make the paper look old:

• Base color: Start with light brown, beige, or yellow ochre. Color softly — don’t press hard.
• Aged effect: Use a bit of cotton or your finger to blend the edges, giving that worn-out look.
• Burnt edges: Add dark brown or black around the edges with small circular motions. Try making the border uneven to make it look like it’s been through storms and time.

For the sea:

• Begin with a light blue base in gentle horizontal strokes.
• Add medium blue or grayish blue in deeper parts of the sea.
• se white for wave crests or leave some small parts uncolored to create shimmer.
• If you’re using colored pencils, softly blend the layers for a natural water look.

Islands:

• Sand: Use pale yellow or light beige, and add touches of brown or gray near the water for damp areas.
• Palm trees: Use leafy green and dark green for the tops. Draw the fronds with curved, sweeping lines.
• Trunks: Light brown with darker brown stripes or texture marks.

Volcano:

• Mix grays with brown for the rocky sides — use uneven lines to mimic cracks and texture.
• For lava, layer red in the center, then orange, and yellow toward the outer parts.
• Leave tiny white spots near the yellow to simulate glowing heat.

Pirate ship:

• For the wood, layer light brown with darker streaks. Follow the direction of the planks.
• Use cream or light gray for the sails. Add shadows to show folds or wind movement.
• To make the ship look like it’s really floating, darken the water just beneath the hull.

Compass:

• Use gray or gold tones for a metal look.
• Add a white dot in the middle to make it shine.
• For details, you can use red, black, or even a hint of blue.

The big “X”:

• Use bold red or black. You can outline it with brown or gray to make it look carved into the ground.
• Want it to look deep? Add shadow on one side using a darker color.

Treasure chest:
