Rabbits can swivel each ear separately to catch sounds from different directions.
A bunny reading a book in its favorite nook is pure sweetness, and it is easy to see why so many families dream of a pet rabbit. Rabbits are gentle and curious, but they need more care than many people expect.
Food comes first. Hay should make up most of their diet and be available all day, along with fresh leafy greens and a small portion of pellets. Their teeth never stop growing, and chewing hay keeps them worn down naturally.
Rabbits also need room. A small cage is not enough; they love to run, hop and explore, so they do best with safe, bunny-proofed areas or a roomy pen. They are social animals, and many are happier with another rabbit for company.
A well-cared-for rabbit can live for many years, often eight or more. When a bunny is really happy, it may leap into the air and twist its body, a move fans call a binky. With patience and kindness, a rabbit can become a wonderful companion. Before bringing one home, it is worth visiting a rescue group, since many rabbits are waiting for new families. Volunteers can explain how to bunny-proof a home and what daily care looks like.
