Batman in Heavy Battle Armor

About this drawing

Armored Batman suits are how the Dark Knight makes up for having no powers. When he has to face enemies far stronger than any human, he suits up in armor built with the latest technology from his company, Wayne Enterprises.

One of the most famous suits comes from the 1986 comic The Dark Knight Returns. In it, an older Batman battles Superman in a giant mechanical suit strong enough to take the Man of Steel's punches. That image has been copied and paid tribute to many times, including on the big screen.

Beyond armor, Batman keeps a huge arsenal of vehicles and tools: the Batmobile, the Batcycle, jets, cutting-edge computers and a full lab in the Batcave, his secret base beneath Wayne Manor.

All that gear costs a fortune, which is one reason Bruce Wayne's wealth matters so much. Even so, the best equipment in the world only goes so far. Batman always depends on his training, his clever planning and his ability to stay one step ahead. That is why many readers see him as the best prepared hero in DC Comics, able to stand up to enemies with powers he will never have.
