About this drawing

Avengers Iron Man pages celebrate one of the heroes who started Marvel's famous team. In the very first Avengers comic, published in 1963, Iron Man joined Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp to stop a threat none of them could handle alone.

Captain America was not part of that first lineup. He came along a little later, when the team found him frozen in ice, and he eventually became their leader. The roster has changed many times since then.

Inside the armor is Tony Stark, a brilliant, wealthy inventor with a quick wit. His suit lets him fly, shrug off heavy hits and fire energy beams from his palms, which the comics call repulsor rays.

On the big screen, Iron Man played a huge role. His first movie came out in 2008 and kicked off the giant Marvel film universe that later brought every hero together in the Avengers movies. Today Iron Man remains one of Marvel's most beloved characters, and his red and gold armor is recognized all over the world. Kids and grown-ups alike love dressing up as him for costume parties, school events and comic conventions.
