Captain America with His Star Shield

About this drawing

Fans know Steve Rogers best in the classic Captain America shield pose. Before he was a hero, Steve was a young man who wanted to serve his country but was too frail to join the army. His courage caught the eye of a scientist, who picked him for a secret experiment.

That experiment was the super-soldier serum. After taking it, Steve became tall, strong and incredibly agile, with reflexes and stamina beyond any athlete. But the scientist who created the serum was killed soon after and the formula was lost, leaving Steve as the one and only super-soldier.

What really makes Captain America special is not his strength but his character. He is honest, stands up for people who cannot protect themselves and never quits, even when things look hopeless. That is why other heroes trust him and follow his lead.

Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, the character has starred in comics, cartoons and blockbuster movies. With his star shield and red, white and blue uniform, he is one of the most recognizable superheroes on the planet. Few costumes are as easy to spot at a parade or party.
