Wonder Woman Strides Forward with Her Lasso

About this drawing

Wonder Woman lasso scenes are instantly recognizable. Her golden rope is no ordinary rope: it is the Lasso of Truth, and anyone caught in it cannot lie. It is also unbreakable, and Diana handles it with amazing skill.

The idea behind the lasso has a fun backstory. William Moulton Marston, who created Wonder Woman, was a psychologist who studied how the body reacts when someone lies, such as changes in blood pressure. His interest in honesty ended up built right into his hero's signature tool.

In the comics, the lasso was made with help from the Greek gods and glows with a magical fire. Wonder Woman uses it to capture villains, to tie down huge objects and even to help people remember who they really are.

The best part is that Wonder Woman would rather use truth than force. With the lasso, she can end a fight without hurting anyone, just by getting the villain to admit the plan. That is why it has become a symbol of honesty. Many fans pick the lasso as their favorite item in the entire DC universe, and it shows up in almost every version of her story.
