Wonder Woman Strikes Under Her Emblem

About this drawing

Wonder Woman punch poses show off one of her best-known defenses: her bracelets. Diana wears two unbreakable metal bands on her wrists, and she can deflect bullets, arrows and energy blasts with them at lightning speed.

In the comics, the bracelets are made from metal forged out of the shield of Zeus, king of the Greek gods. For the Amazons, they also carry a deeper meaning, reminding them of a time when they were held captive and that they must never lose their freedom again.

Above her floats the Wonder Woman emblem, two interlocking letter Ws. Her early costume had a golden eagle across the chest, and over the years that design was simplified into the double W, now one of the most recognized symbols in comics.

Wonder Woman mixes defense and attack with great skill. First she blocks with her bracelets, then she fires back with powerful blows like the one on this page. It is a fighting style she learned from the greatest Amazon warriors. That is why many fans believe no one in the Justice League can match her in hand-to-hand combat.
