About this drawing

Mario and Sonic race scenes would have seemed impossible in the early 1990s. Back then they were the mascots of two rival companies, each the face of a different game console, and fans argued endlessly about who was better. TV ads fanned the flames of that rivalry.

That changed in 2007, when the two heroes finally appeared in the same game, built around Olympic-style sports. They competed in track events, swimming, fencing and more, joined by friends and foes from both worlds.

The crossover was such a hit that it became a series, with new editions for summer and winter events. Seeing the plumber and the hedgehog shake hands after years of rivalry was a big moment for players who grew up picking sides.

This page brings in fans from both universes too. The cheering mushroom folks are Toads from the Mushroom Kingdom, and the round little creatures with floating orbs above their heads are Chao from Sonic's world. In a straight sprint, Sonic is the favorite, but Mario never gives up without a fight. Who wins is up to you and your crayons.
