Mario Laughs With the Rabbids

About this drawing

Mario with Rabbids sounds like an odd pairing, and that is part of the fun. Rabbids are wide-eyed white bunnies with long ears who scream, giggle and cause chaos wherever they go. They first appeared in 2006 as part of another game series and became popular enough to headline their own games.

They love dressing up, just like the bunnies on this page in a pirate hat, a mushroom suit and golf gear. They never use real words. Instead they shriek, babble and let out their famous bwaaah whenever something goes wrong or makes them laugh.

In 2017 the Rabbids crashed into the Mushroom Kingdom in a turn-based strategy game. Mario and his friends teamed up with Rabbids dressed as familiar Mushroom Kingdom faces to clean up the mess the bunnies had made, planning each move on a grid like a board game.

Fans were surprised to see Mario carrying a blaster and thinking several steps ahead, but the mix worked so well that a sequel followed in 2022. Those games proved that Mario can fit into almost any style of game, even one full of screaming bunnies.
