About this drawing

Mufasa, the Lion King, is the great ruler of the savanna in Disney's 1994 movie. This coloring page shows him standing on the rock with his head held high and his mane blowing in the wind, just as he watches over the Pride Lands from Pride Rock.

Mufasa is a wise and fair king. In one of the film's best-remembered scenes, he tells Simba that everything the light touches is part of their kingdom and that all living things are connected in the great circle of life. His jealous brother Scar plots to take the throne, an idea the writers borrowed partly from Shakespeare's Hamlet.

The character returned to theaters in the realistic 2019 remake and in Mufasa: The Lion King, released in 2024, which tells how an orphaned cub grew up to become king. The stage musical has also been running on Broadway for more than twenty-five years.

Mufasa fits a very old idea. From ancient Egypt to medieval coats of arms, the lion has stood for royalty, courage and nobility, which is why we call it the king of beasts. In the wild, though, males with big manes share power in the pride with the lionesses, who do most of the hunting.
