About this drawing

Spider-Man vs Venom is one of Marvel's most famous rivalries, and the strangest part is that Venom started with Spider-Man himself. In a 1984 story set on a distant planet, Peter Parker picked up a slick new black suit that repaired itself and made its own webbing.

He soon learned the suit was alive. It was a symbiote, an alien creature trying to bond with him for good. Peter escaped using the deafening bells of a church tower, since loud sounds and fire are a symbiote's big weaknesses.

The angry symbiote then found Eddie Brock, a reporter who blamed Spider-Man for ruining his career. Together they became Venom, a huge, muscular figure with fangs and a long tongue. Because the symbiote had once been part of Peter, it knew his secrets and did not trigger his spider-sense.

Over time Venom shifted from villain to antihero, and he headlined his own movie series starting in 2018. Those films turned him into a fan favorite far beyond the comics. Today Venom is one of the most popular characters in the entire Marvel universe, with his own toys, games and comic series.
