Venom's catchphrase, We are Venom, comes from the symbiote and its host speaking as one.

About this drawing

Venom swinging between skyscrapers shows how much this character took from Spider-Man. While the symbiote was bonded to Peter Parker, it copied his powers, and when it moved on to Eddie Brock, it kept them.

That means Venom can climb walls and fire webbing too, but he needs no gadgets. The webs come straight from his body because they are made of the symbiote itself. He is also bigger and stronger than Spider-Man and can reshape his body, sprout tendrils or blend into his surroundings.

The symbiote is an alien life form that needs a host to survive. Once bonded, it shares the host's feelings and memories. Eddie and the symbiote both hated Spider-Man, which made them a dangerous team from the start.

Over time Venom shifted from pure villain to antihero, protecting innocent people in his own rough way. That change earned him his own comic series and a run of movies starting in 2018. He has become one of Marvel's best-known characters, even outside Spider-Man's stories. Fans love him because he is never quite a hero and never quite a villain.
