Formula One in Blocks

About this drawing

A Minecraft F1 race car will not show up on any of the game's maps, since there are no cars there, but Minecraft does have a classic way to zoom around: minecarts. These little carts roll along tracks and carry players or supplies across the world.

Regular rails are crafted from iron and sticks and laid down one after another. To keep a minecart moving fast, you need powered rails, which run on redstone. Players combine them to build subway lines, roller coasters and huge rail networks linking their bases.

Minecraft also lets you travel by boat, ride a horse, steer a saddled pig with a carrot on a stick or even ride a strider, a creature that walks across lava in the Nether. Each ride has its own tricks and top speed.

Building race cars like this one is a favorite challenge for speed fans. Some players create full racetracks with grandstands, pit lanes and finish lines so friends can hold their own races inside the game. Some even time every lap and run full championships with friends, complete with podiums built from gold blocks. It is a great mix of building skill and friendly competition.
