About this drawing

A Minecraft crocodile is a fan design, since the game's swamps have no crocs. Frogs, slimes and witches live there instead, so reptile lovers build crocodiles from green blocks or draw them, just like this one.

Real crocodiles are reptiles whose ancestors lived alongside the dinosaurs. They inhabit rivers, lakes and mangrove swamps in warm parts of Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia. The saltwater crocodile is the largest living reptile on Earth.

Crocodiles are patient hunters. They float with only their eyes and nostrils above the water, then lunge at fish, birds and mammals that come to drink. They lose lots of teeth over their lifetime, but new ones keep growing in.

For such fierce-looking animals, they are surprisingly caring parents. Mothers guard their nests and gently carry hatchlings to the water in their mouths. A long body, powerful tail and armored skin make the crocodile a natural fit for Minecraft's blocky look. If crocodiles ever joined the game, the mangrove swamps added in 2022 would be the perfect home, with muddy water, twisting roots and plenty of frogs to keep them company. For now, builders keep inventing their own blocky crocs instead.
