About this drawing

A Minecraft monkey is a fan creation, because the game's jungle has no monkeys. Ocelots, parrots and pandas live among its giant trees and vines, and booby-trapped temples hide in the undergrowth, but monkeys only appear in drawings and player builds.

In nature there are many kinds of monkeys. Scientists often split them into two groups: New World monkeys from Central and South America, and Old World monkeys from Africa and Asia. Most live in tropical forests, leaping from branch to branch.

Monkeys are very social. They live in groups and communicate with calls, gestures and facial expressions, and they spend lots of time grooming each other, which helps keep friendships strong. They mostly eat fruit, leaves, seeds and insects.

They are clever, too, and some even use sticks or stones as tools to get food. With its long tail and friendly face, this blocky monkey would look right at home swinging through a Minecraft jungle. In the game, jungle parrots even dance when music plays from a nearby jukebox, and they can imitate the sounds of nearby mobs. A monkey would fit right in with such a lively crowd.
