A newborn kangaroo is about the size of a jelly bean and finishes growing in its mother's pouch.
A Minecraft kangaroo is a fan creation, since this hopping animal does not live in the game. The savanna biome has horses, donkeys, llamas and armadillos, but kangaroos only show up in player builds and drawings like this one.
Real kangaroos come from Australia, and they are marsupials, which means mothers carry their young in a belly pouch. A baby kangaroo, called a joey, spends months inside that pouch nursing and growing before it is brave enough to hop out on its own.
Kangaroos travel in a way no other big animal does. Their powerful hind legs launch them forward in long bounds, and their thick tail keeps them balanced, almost like a fifth leg when they stand still. Hopping saves energy, helping them cover huge distances across dry grasslands.
They munch mostly on grass and leaves and usually live in groups called mobs. Even turned into cubes, a kangaroo is easy to spot thanks to those tall ears, giant feet and proud upright pose. Australia is home to many species, from the big red kangaroo to the much smaller wallabies, and kangaroos even appear on the country's coat of arms.
