Princess Rosalina Raises Her Star Wand

About this drawing

Princess Rosalina made her debut in 2007 in an adventure that sent Mario hopping between tiny planets and swirling galaxies. Unlike other princesses, she does not live in a castle. Her home is the Comet Observatory, a huge starship that sails through space.

She watches over the cosmos and cares for the Lumas, small star-shaped creatures who see her as their mother. Rosalina is always shown with her star-topped wand, a crown and a long, flowing gown, and she carries herself with a quiet, gentle calm.

One of the most touching parts of her first game is a storybook players unlock bit by bit. It tells how a young girl ended up in space, befriended a lost Luma and chose to stay and look after all of them.

These days Rosalina also races karts, plays sports and shows up at Mushroom Kingdom parties. Fans love her calm, graceful personality, which makes a nice contrast with cheerful Princess Peach. She has even become a regular fighter in crossover brawling games, where her Luma floats beside her and helps her attack. Many fans consider her one of the most interesting characters added to the series in recent years.
