Doctor Eggman villain plots have driven Sonic's adventures since 1991. He is a brilliant scientist with a giant mustache, aviator goggles and a round, egg-shaped body that gave him his nickname.

For years he went by two names. Japanese releases always called him Eggman, while players in the West knew him as Doctor Robotnik. The games eventually blended the two, so today you will hear both, with Robotnik treated as his real surname and Eggman as the nickname he proudly wears.
