The Minecraft fish is one of the most common sights in the game's oceans and rivers. There are four kinds: cod, salmon, tropical fish and pufferfish. Each prefers different waters, and tropical fish love warm coral reefs.
Players can catch fish in two ways. The first is fishing with a rod: cast the line, wait for the bobber to dip and reel it in fast. Sometimes you hook treasure instead, like an enchanted book or a bow.
The second way is scooping a fish up in a water bucket. The fish stays inside until you release it into a pond or an aquarium you have built, which makes buckets the go-to tool for players decorating their homes with colorful fish.
Watch out for pufferfish, though. Eating one causes nausea and poison. Cooked cod and salmon, on the other hand, are solid food sources, and dolphins love them too. Feed a dolphin raw fish and it may lead you to a nearby shipwreck or buried treasure. That makes fishing one of the most rewarding activities in the game, for food, decoration and adventure alike. It is also wonderfully relaxing.
