Zombie in the Blocky Woods

The Minecraft zombie is one of the first enemies every player meets. Zombies spawn in the dark, at night or deep in caves, and shuffle toward nearby players with arms outstretched and a low groan. They look a lot like Steve, just with green skin.

Sunlight is their big weakness. At sunrise, zombies caught outdoors catch fire unless they wear a helmet or find shade or water. That is why the first night in a new world is the scariest: you need a shelter before the sun goes down.

Zombies can also raid villages and turn villagers into zombie villagers. Luckily, there is a cure. Throw a splash potion of weakness at one, then feed it a golden apple, and it turns back into a regular villager who gives its rescuer better trades.

A creeper is lurking in this scene too, the silent green mob that sneaks up and explodes. Together, zombies and creepers are the stars of every spooky Minecraft night. Baby zombies are even trickier: they are small, fast and can slip through tiny gaps. Some even ride chickens, a rare and funny sight known as a chicken jockey.
