About this drawing

A schnauzer puppy is easy to spot thanks to its friendly grandpa face: a beard, a mustache and bushy eyebrows that give it a hilarious expression. In fact, the name comes from the German word schnauze, which means snout, because that whiskery muzzle is so eye-catching.

The breed developed in Germany centuries ago. Schnauzers lived on farms and in stables, where they hunted rats and mice and guarded the house. Their beards were not just for looks, either. The wiry hair helped protect their muzzles from rodent bites during a chase.

Their coat is wiry and rough and sheds very little, which is why many families choose them. It does need regular brushing and trips to the groomer to keep the beard and coat neat. After meals, it is a good idea to wipe that mustache, because bits of food love to get stuck in it.

Schnauzers are smart, cheerful and always aware of what is going on at home. They love to play, learn tricks quickly and bark to announce visitors. A schnauzer makes a great buddy for active families who want to spend plenty of time together.
